Managing Expired Medications in MedServe

Follow these steps to properly segregate expired medications using MedServe.

✅ Step 1: Create an Expired Medications Bin and Patient Profile

  1. Create a bin labeled “Expired Medications” where all expired medications will be stored until they are sent to a reverse distributor or wasted.
  2. Create a patient profile named “Expired Meds” to associate with these transactions.

🚫 Step 2: Removing Expired Meds from General Stock

  1. Log into MedServe using your ID badge or primary PIN code.
  2. Select the bin containing the expired medication.
  3. Enter your PIN code and press the Unlock button.
  4. Choose the medication to be expired and select the “Take” option.
  5. Enter the quantity to be removed from general stock.
  6. Select “Expired Meds” as the patient.
  7. Repeat the process for all expired medications that need to be removed.

🔄 Step 3: Completing Expired Medication Segregation

  1. Use the “Return” function and select the “Expired Medications” bin.
  2. Choose the medication and enter the correct quantity of expired meds.
  3. Select “Expired Meds” in the patient field.
  4. In the Notes field, include any relevant details, such as:
    • Expiration date
    • Lot number
    • Any other pertinent information
  5. Confirm the return to complete the segregation process.
