Taking Medications from the MedServe Cabinet

1. Accessing the Cabinet

  • Scan ID badge or enter primary PIN code to log into MedServe.
  • Select the medication bin from which medication will be taken.
  • Enter PIN code and press the Unlock button.

2. Selecting & Taking Medication

  • Choose the medication and select the ‘Take’ option.
  • Enter the quantity to take from the cabinet and select ‘Save’.

3. Adding Patient Information

For Non-Preloaded Patients:

  • Enter the relevant patient information, which may include:
    • MRN (Patient ID)
    • Patient Name
    • Date of Birth (DOB)
    • Patient Address

For Preloaded Patients:

  • Tap the ‘Select Patient’ button to access the patient list.
    • Note: This button is only available if there are active patients. If unavailable, no patients are active or the cabinet is not properly connected to the network.
  • Use the search field to find the patient or scroll through the list.
    • Search options: Patient Name, MRN, DOB, etc.
  • Once all required fields are populated, select the ‘Take’ button in the bottom right corner.

4. Removing Medication

  • The appropriate compartment door will unlock
  • Remove the specified medication

5. Medication Count Verification

  • For medications requiring countbacks:
    • The MedServe cabinet will prompt you to count the on-hand inventory before taking medication.
    • Open the bin as indicated for the selected medication.
    • Count the on-hand inventory and enter the quantity on the touchpad.
    • If the count is accurate, proceed with taking the medication.

  • If the count is inaccurate, the system will:
    • Prompt the user for a recount or approve a discrepancy.
    • Allow one final recount attempt before confirming the discrepancy.
  • If a discrepancy is noted, the system will alert the user.

6. Completing the Transaction

  • Once medication is taken, select the ‘Lock’ button to log out or proceed with the next transaction.
